John is a freelance writer, speaker and consultant on bioethical issues. He was born and initially schooled in Cambridge, but most of his secondary education was at Reading School. From 1966 to 1976, he studied at Leeds, Pennsylvania State and Nottingham Universities. From 1976 to 2001, he was a lecturer in biochemistry and bioethics at the Institute of Biological Sciences, the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He then took early retirement and wrote two books on bioethical issues in two years.
